Atomic Sketch Holiday Extravaganza!
In December, the Atomic Sketch Event will take place on Thursday December 17th, from 6 to 10 pm, at the evilOlive nightclub, located at 1551 W. Division Street in Chicago's Wicker Park. Focusing on the concept of affordable art as inspired holiday gift ideas, Atomic Sketch will feature a panel of 12 artists. In addition, these 12 artists will participate in collaboration with local t-shirt company, RIPT Apparel, to create a holiday design to be sold on RIPT's website. Proceeds from sales will go to charity.
The formula for the Atomic Sketch Event - a formula that continues to great success - is that of the lovely marriage of art and drink. Emerging and established artists from the Chicagoland area are invited to participate on a panel of artists who sketch, paint and draw throughout the night. As each work is completed, the finished pieces are put on display and sold for extremely affordable prices. In many cases, artists whose studio work sells for hundreds or even thousands of dollars will sell pieces for less than $50.
Atomic Sketch Event is sponsored by Templeton American Rye Whiskey with drink specials, and hosted by local art triumvirate, bcd collaborative. Popular local DJ, Greg Haus, spins alternative electronica.
The artists' panel for December consists of:
Ken Carrano
Will Miller
[ad7m]
paranoidgirl
rickikat
Patti Stell
Jason Branscum
John Airo
Ethan Hutchinson
emmy star brown
Kendra Taylor
Brian Hofmeister.
Every Month, in addition to the panel of artists, a Featured Artist or Artist Group will hang a collection of work that hangs for another month until the next Sketch Event. The December Featured Artist is Ken Carrano.
As always, drop-in artists are also welcome to create and sell work, however, as the night has increased in popularity, space fills up quickly. Artists not on the panel are urged to show up early. Since its inception, evilOlive has continued to open up space throughout the club to accommodate its increasing audience.

"I have always created art, but after realizing how many pieces of framed art ended up discarded in dumpsters, I shifted my focus from creating fine art from new materials to creating fine art from found materials. As the world becomes increasingly dependent on automated technology, the obsolete or broken items end up rejected and forgotten. I began to see the many possibilities in discarded objects. I imagined the life inherent in the piles of items other people discounted as useless detritus."
John Airo's work will remain on the walls of evilOlive until the next Sketch event, on August 27.
